Alien plants around M-type stars

--

M-type stars are the coldest, and plants evolved on planets orbiting them would have to take into account the star’s low luminosity.

Under these conditions, pigments that absorb light of virtually any frequency would be evolutionarily advantageous. This means that plants could be black, to utilize every component of the little available light.

Another hypothesis is that due to the competition for the little light, each plant species could adapt to absorb each a different frequency. The result would be a flora of many different colors.

A final note is that because of the star’s low temperature, the habitable zone would be located very close to it. This means that radiation and even solar flares would be problems to which the flora and fauna would have to adapt.
