They possess a very high solubility of breathable gases, being able to transport more oxygen and carbon dioxide than the blood itself.

The liquid is therefore very rich in oxygen and even allows liquid respiration.

It is indeed breathable, and is used in the treatment of patients suffering from lung and heart problems, as well as potentially for future space travel and scuba diving.

The liquid remains breathable only for a limited amount of time, and could even lay the foundation for a future artificial blood, as it carries as much as three times more oxygen than air itself.
