Can fruit be kept fresh out of the fridge?

--

Indeed, yes.

There is a new technology: an imperceptible and edible silk film, capable of extending the shelf life of fresh food, slowing down its deterioration.

It is made with a natural process of extraction of silk proteins, based on water and salt. The coating is applied without modifying the food: it is tasteless and slows down spoilage.

This technology will soon be developed for the preservation of processed foods, counteracting food waste and reducing packaging.
