Can we colonize comets?

There is a way, formulated by Freeman Dyson, that contemplated the idea of making comets habitable habitats for humans.

There exist plants capable of raising the temperature of their surroundings (I discuss this here), and they could use their ability to obtain water from comet ice, while creating an environment with breathable air and acceptable temperatures.

The idea was that, starting from the DNA of similar plants, it would be possible to engineer so-called ‘Dyson Trees’.

The characteristics needed would be a thick, hard bark to resist outer space and insulate the comet’s interior, thus creating a habitable air bubble. The bark would also need to be transparent in order to allow sunlight to penetrate the interior (which I also discuss here).

It would be like a biological spaceship, capable of supporting even millions of people, depending on its size. And considering how abundant comets are, one can imagine an asteroid belt colonized in this way, almost like a lush archipelago in space.
