The episode begins with Bojack taking Sarah Lynn to what could be the Sugarman manor house (Bojack’s mother family), likely a metaphor of the fact that he feels responsible for having “taken” her into his life, and indirectly to her death. Notice the fact that Sarah Lynn is growing over the course of the episode, perhaps because Bojack has known her throughout her whole life.

They are greeted by Beatrice and Bojack gives her hydrangeas, flowers that have many meanings. This flower’s name in Chinese means “plant of the eight immortals”, eight like the number of characters in the episode. In Japanese culture hydrangeas stand for apology, and pink symbolizes love when associated with this plant: Bojack is unconsciously apologizing for having abandoned her in a hospice, and is offering her his love.

Giving hydrangeas has also the meaning of wanting to get away from the person that is receiving them. They were also given to people who refused suitors (as Beatrice did with Creamerman because she was pregnant with Bojack) and with a rigid and cold temper (like Beatrice).
