Is a workless world on its way?

This is what the advocates of UBI (universal basic income) hope for.

The system, due to demographic transitions and the ever-increasing automation that is taking place in the world of work, could actually provide a stable system that would guarantee every citizen a minimum wage.

In the current model, there are people, the companies they work for and the state. People work for companies in exchange for a salary, which they use to pay other companies to buy their products and services. Both companies and people pay taxes to the state in the process.

The system is thus modified in the context of UBI: when increasing automation allows companies to produce with little or no human intervention, people will no longer have to work routinely; it would be the state that pays for their needs.

That money would come from companies, which, no longer having to pay workers, would see their profits increase. Human resources are among the most expensive, and replacing them with robots, besides saving money, means a constant and flawless production.

If, at this point, the state taxed companies more, they would get the money needed for the population.

And as GDP grows and the UBI get better and better, the services and products they provide to citizens get superior as well.
