Is food in the US more caloric than in Europe?
A bit of research and comparison about the same foods revealed, surprisingly, that it is true; in the US in general there is a higher caloric content.
The differences noticed is the American heavy addition of sauces, dips and sugar. This brings up the calorie count easily without you realizing it, because the portion size is not much different.
But why would the same company have different parameters based on location?
It’s not a discovery, the connection between sugary drinks, highly processed fatty foods and obesity is directly proportional worldwide.
It’s a good enough reason to push companies to reduce the amount of sugar and fat in their products, but apparently not in America.
Maybe I’m speculating, however, if industries revolutionized portions and ingredients and healthier foods were priced fairly or lower than a mega burger, perhaps we might see an improvement in obesity rates.
But do you know who would lose out?
The healthcare industry, pharmaceuticals and the weight-loss business which, by the way, is worth more than 200 billion dollars alone, and that is expected to reach almost 300 billion by 2027!
