The real events that inspired “Up”
The famous cartoon is modelled after the story of Edith Macefield, owner since 1950 of a small cottage located in Seattle 100 years old.
Over time, the house was surrounded by concrete walls on three of its sides, and despite offering the stubborn lady a million dollars in 2006 to leave, to make room for a shopping mall, she refused to sell, and there was no way to change her mind.
She just said, “I don’t want to move. I don’t need money. Money means nothing.” The lady remained there until 2008, the year of her death. The following year, the house inspired Pixar’s film Up.
