What would it be like if the ocean was completely transparent?

--

Let’s assume that overnight, inexplicably, the Earth’s oceans become transparent.

Initially it would be a spectacle, we would see lots of fish, even undiscovered species, and sunken ships on the ocean floor, but also lots of garbage and vast flat expanses that are completely empty.

The real problem would be that sunlight is now able to travel down to the ocean floor, so water temperature would start to increase while the amount of oxygen that can be dissolved in it would drop.

That means much less oxygen goes from the atmosphere to the seas, which can now support fewer aquatic organisms.

The result is a planet with higher average temperature, fewer fish and algae, more oxygen in the atmosphere, and clear ocean floors.
